Changing or requesting a change of vehicle category in your reservation made on Rentcars can be an interesting option to tailor your rental experience. Below, we explain how the process works, the conditions involved, and what to consider when making these changes.

How to request an upgrade or category change?

  1. Request via online chat: Log in to your account and access the support center through “Help” > “Online chat”. Then start a conversation with Carol, our virtual assistant, and select the reservation you want to change. Requests to change the vehicle category will be forwarded to a human agent, who will continue assisting you. The chat is a practical and fast way to start your request and can be accessed from wherever you are, including through our mobile app.

  2. Alternative at the counter: If the request was not made in advance, you can check the possibility of an upgrade directly at the rental counter at the time of pickup. This process is subject to availability and current rates.

Under what conditions can I change the vehicle category?

Changing the vehicle category is subject to various conditions, and it is essential to consider the following points:

  • Availability: Not all categories may be available on the desired date and time. Variable rates applied by rental companies may affect the available options.

  • Cost variation: Changing the vehicle category may incur additional costs. Upgrades to higher categories, such as SUVs or luxury models, involve a rate adjustment. Even changes to smaller vehicle groups may result in price differences, depending on the rate in effect on the day of the reservation.

  • Prior cost notification: Before finalizing changes, the rental company or Rentcars will provide a new quote with the adjusted amount. Only after your confirmation will the change be made.

What are the limitations of the change process?

  • Post-pickup changes: Once the vehicle is picked up, Rentcars cannot intervene to make changes. In this case, negotiations must be carried out directly with the rental company, including any costs and specific conditions.

  • Individual rental company policies: Some rental companies have specific rules that may prevent changes close to the pickup date. For example, companies with a 48-hour hold policy may not allow changes during this period.

Can I choose a specific car model within the category?

Our reservation guarantees a vehicle category (for example, "Economy" or "SUV"), not a specific model. The cars shown are only examples. The exact model you will pick up depends on the fleet available at the rental location at the time of your arrival.
