Yes! It is necessary to present a physical credit card that meets the required criteria:
Owns the card;
Name and number printed and legible;
Unblocked for international purchases;
Within the valid period;
Issued by a physical banking institution;
Has an available limit for the security deposit hold.
It is also important to know that:
The approval of the credit card is entirely the responsibility of the rental company. Additionally, there are rental companies that have their own policies regarding the criteria and may request additional data.
Be aware! Although they may seem the same, a financial institution and a banking institution are not the same thing. A bank is a type of financial institution that offers checking accounts and can accept deposits. On the other hand, a financial institution is a broader term that includes credit unions, brokerage firms, lending fintechs, and other companies that are not banks.
Learn about the Financial Responsible Party option when renting a car in Brazil
We understand that, in some cases, the driver may not have a credit card that meets the rental company's requirements. For this reason, some rental companies in Brazil offer the option of adding a Financial Responsible Party.
With this service, another person may present a credit card that meets the rental company's requirements, subject to a fee established by the rental company.
The Financial Responsible Party must be present at the time of vehicle pick-up and meet the following requirements:
Present a valid identification document;
Have a credit card that meets the rental company's requirements;
Have a CPF with no restrictions, in the case of Brazilian customers.
Rental companies perform a registration and credit assessment before the rental. If the assessment is not approved, the vehicle cannot be picked up.
Please note that Rentcars does not perform this assessment before the reservation is confirmed.
Please keep the following points in mind:
Remember: the card must be a physical card with the card number and cardholder's name printed on it. Rental companies do not accept digital or prepaid cards. In Brazil, some rental companies accept physical cards issued by digital banks, such as Nubank and C6.
Good news: the Financial Responsible Party does not need to hold a driver's license to sign the contract. It is sufficient that the driver presents a valid driver's license that was issued more than 2 years ago.
