Child seats are classified into various types, and the most suitable choice depends on the child’s age, size, and the region’s safety regulations.
Do I need to use a car seat or special seat for children during the rental?
Yes. The legislation of each country aims to ensure the safety of children during transport, requiring car seats or special seats according to age or height. The requirement varies by destination, check out some examples:
Brazil: mandatory for children under 10 years old (Contran Resolution 819/2021).
Florida (USA): mandatory for children up to 5 years old.
European Union: mandatory for children under 1.35m tall.
What are the types of child car seats?
In most countries, car seats are divided into three models based on the child's weight, age, and size.
Infant car seat or infant seat: should be used for children up to 9 or 13 kilograms, according to the manufacturer's recommendation, or up to 1 year of age. The baby must face backward.
Toddler car seat or child seat: this device is suitable for children who are 1 to 4 years old or who weigh 9 to 18 kilograms. From this age, they are transported facing forward.
Booster seat: from 4 to 10 years old, or weighing from 18 to 36 kilograms, the child can be secured with the vehicle's own seat belt, but using the booster seat. The belt used must be a three-point belt.
How can I add a car seat to my reservation?
Start your booking on the Rentcars website or app and select the desired car category;
On the booking setup page, you will find the section "Add extras to your booking";
There you can add baby car seats, booster seats, and other extras, such as reservation protection.
If you did not find the option to add these items at the time of booking, do not worry. You can check availability and rates directly at the rental counter when picking up the vehicle.
What is the cost of the car seat?
The cost of the car seat is defined by the rental company. If it was not possible to include the item in the configuration of your reservation through the website or app, it is recommended to check with the rental company beforehand.
Can I use my own car seat?
Yes. You can use your own child car seat when renting a car. Check with the rental company if there are specific conditions for the installation of the equipment and ensure it is compliant with local regulations. This can be done directly at the pickup counter.

Choose a flexible rental company: Research rental companies that allow you to include car seats as part of the online booking process. Some specific companies facilitate the pre-booking of these accessories.
Contact the rental company: Use the rental company's phone number available on your voucher to check the availability of car seats in advance.
